...that preservation of historic sites is required by our National Parks.

...the "Organic Act" which created the National Park Service in 1916 mandates by law that the Park Service's purpose "...is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein, and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."

...the Historic Sites Act of 1935 states that "...it is a national policy to preserve for public use historic sites, buildings, and objects of national significance for the inspiration and benefit of the people of the United States."

...this same act mandates the duties to be performed by the National Park Service in carrying out this policy. These duties include:

...the Mineral King Valley is one of the most historic valleys in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, holding prehistoric as well as historic 1870's to early 1900's sites and artifacts. It still maintains a living community begun in 1873 with presently occupied buildings that were constructed from 50 to over 100 years ago.
